This is the first year I have not worked Anime Expo in a while. To be perfectly frank, I didn't miss it - I really needed the year off. So instead, the ex-wife and I deprived ourselves of such creature comforts as sleep. For the first time, I had experienced sleep-deprivation induced hallucinations - it's a strange experience, not recommended unless you've slept well. In any case, lesson learned: GET A HOTEL ROOM. The other thing about this particular year is that one of my own staffers from two years prior - Aaron McPeak - had passed on earlier in the year due to complications with Hodgkin's Lymphoma. City of Hope - a hospital in southern California that deals with cancer - was at that time one of the ongoing charities. Not sure if they still are. Still, the eulogy I had for him (never posted beyond here) is on thsi page. In any event, there were several of us, all there for @anime! and in general having an...interesting time around the con.
