It was his favorite time of the day.

Buffy had finished Alex' bath and after bundling him up in his Barney
pajamas and a thick furry purple robe, mother and son were curled on the
sofa in front of an artificially blazing fireplace. Buffy's relaxed voice, a
whisper of perfect love and bliss, read from a book of Grimm's Fairy Tales
while Alex oooed and ahhhed and pointed excitedly to the brightly colored
pictures.

Leaning his head back into the soft crush of his chair and stretching out
his long legs, Xander didn't bother to repress the contented smile. At time
like this, when the night blanketed them in a diamond studded blanket of
darkness and stars, he could well imagine the horrors of their years in
Sunnydale were nothing but figments of his rabid imagination.

Closing his eyes, he lost himself in the soft drone of mother and child.
