Daniel's Stargate
by Teddy & Peja

Part 7
by Teddy

The next ten days were hectic for Daniel. Jack took him to the Air Force
Hospital to have his eyes tested but Daniel refused to look at the chart or
speak. Jack sat down beside him with a note pad and two pencils. He started
by looking up at the chart and writing down the biggest letter. In the next
line he wrote down one letter wrong deliberately. Daniel took the second
pencil reached over and scribbled it out. He wrote in the correct letter.
They kept this up until Daniel could recognise most of the letters and the
optomitrist had the script for his new glasses. Then came the choosing of
the frames. Again Jack tried the copy me stratergy. Jack was happy to get
out alive after Daniel tried on every pair of frames in the place. They left
a pile of frames on one of the counters.

Daniel didn't care much for the outside world. One the back seat of Jack's
car, securely strapped in, he pulled his feet up onto the seat and put his
hands over his ears, humming to himself. Whenever the noise around them got
louder, his humming got louder.

Part 8
by PEJA

Jack was with Daniel when the General arrived to check on the child's
progress. the stern looking military man towrded over the boy. Daniel
slithered away from the man, ignoring him even while he cast covert glances
over his shoulder toward him.

The dark scowl blossoming over the general's face set off alarms in Jack's
head even before the trouble hit.

But too late.

The stern-faced man grabbed Daniel by the shoulder and swung him around.

Daniel screamed, more like a banshee howl, unending, piercing, worse than
any stage one alarm Jack had ever heard.

The General responded by grabbing the boy by both shoulders, bending low, in
his face, and shouting, "Stop this nonsense this instant."

Jack was on his feet, dashing across the huge bay area. Horrified by the
scene playing out before him in what his mind saw as slow motion.

Young Daniel's foot rose, paused a mere heartbeat and descended with enough
force to cripple. The General released him jumping around like he was riding
a pogo stick and bellowing to arrest the boy who stood at the edge of the
chaos, tongue in cheek and humming his innocent tune.

Jack dashed up and blocked the guards, who were directing rifles at the
clueless boy. "Back the fuck off, boys." Jack said softly.

He ws not surprised to feel Daniel's small hand slipping into his, the young
boy's body plastered to his back. "Bad men," Daniel murmured, then pointed
to the general. "Very bad man."
